Grimaldi Agency Clarifies Customs Duty on Container Sales

Grimaldi Agency Nigeria, represented by Esther Oluku, issued a statement clarifying its position on the sale of empty shipping containers in response to reports suggesting that sellers would be liable for customs duties following the sale of 2,500 empty containers. The company refuted these claims, describing them as false and unsupported by facts.

Grimaldi explained that the empty containers were sold strictly under international customs status, commonly referred to as foreign customs position, which does not transfer to domestic equipment intended for local use within Nigeria. The sale agreement clearly outlines that the containers are meant for international carriage of goods without altering their original customs status.

Furthermore, Grimaldi noted that the sale agreement specifies that compliance with local customs regulations is the buyer's responsibility and expense, reflecting established international shipping practices. The company emphasized that the arrangement allows for continued operation in international commerce without changing the customs classification status.
