Akwa Ibom Pays N90bn Gratuities, Recruits 7,069 Workers

The Akwa Ibom State Government has paid over N90 billion out of the N111 billion in gratuity liabilities owed to retired public servants, as disclosed by the Head of Civil Service, Elsie Peters, during a media event in Uyo. This payment is part of Governor Umo Eno’s administration's efforts to enhance workers' welfare and strengthen public service.

Peters noted that the administration has also maintained regular salary payments, implemented an N80,000 minimum wage effective November 1, 2024, and introduced a 13th-month salary, known as “Eno-Mber,” in 2023. Furthermore, approximately 7,069 personnel have been recruited, including 4,000 general workers, 1,000 primary school teachers, and 766 health workers.

The Eno administration has also allocated 150 two-bedroom expandable houses to civil servants and launched the Akwa Ibom State Health Insurance Scheme, covering premiums for junior workers. Peters emphasized the governor's commitment to translating government policies into tangible benefits for citizens.
