FC Porto's task became increasingly difficult after Jan Bednarek was dismissed just eight minutes into the match, leaving them to battle with ten men. Aina, a Nigerian international, completed the full 90 minutes and received a rating of 7.40 from BBC Sport for his disciplined defensive display.

Despite their historic progress, Aina acknowledged that Forest made the match challenging for themselves. The victory also extended Porto's winless streak against English teams, marking their 25th match without a win on English soil.
