NCAA Enforces Debt Sanctions on 11 Domestic Airlines

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has placed 11 domestic airlines on a "no pay, no service" list due to outstanding statutory charges, as detailed in an internal memo dated May 22, 2026. The enforcement action is expected to affect the airlines' access to critical regulatory administrative services until they clear their debts or agree to a payment plan.

The memo, signed by Director of Finance Olufemi Odukoya, indicates that services will be withheld from airlines including Air Peace, Ibom Air, Arik Air, and others until financial clearance is achieved. NCAA Director General Chijioke Najomo acknowledged the harsh economic realities facing airlines but emphasized the need for financial stability to maintain safety oversight.

Airlines are struggling with rising aviation fuel prices and operational costs, leading to difficult decisions regarding ticket pricing and operational viability. Former Rector of Nigeria College of Aviation Technology, Samuel Caulcrick, expressed concerns about the long-term viability of the domestic aviation sector amidst these challenges.
