Ondo State Promises Equal Opportunities for Albinism Community

During the 2026 International Albinism Awareness Day held in Akure, Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, represented by Dr Seun Osamaye, the state Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, assured persons living with albinism of equal opportunities in accessing government programs and services. The administration has implemented measures to promote inclusion and eliminate discrimination against persons with disabilities.

Osamaye emphasized the importance of treating individuals with albinism with respect and dignity, highlighting that albinism is a hereditary condition. Ayodele Fagorola, Chairman of the Association of Persons with Albinism in Ondo State, acknowledged the governor's efforts but pointed out ongoing discrimination and social exclusion.

He urged state governments to adopt policies that foster inclusion. The event, organized by the ministry in collaboration with the Ondo State Agency for the Welfare of Persons with Disabilities, included the distribution of 360 tubes of sunscreen and sunblocks to support individuals with albinism.
