Ondo Governor Disburses ₦2.4bn to 2018, 2019 Retirees

Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has officially disbursed ₦2.4 billion in gratuities to retirees from the years 2018 and 2019. The ceremony took place at the Cocoa Conference Centre in Akure, with a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary, Ebenez Adeniyan.

Governor Aiyedatiwa described this disbursement as a significant step towards restoring the dignity of retirees and addressing the long-standing arrears that have caused hardship for many. He emphasized the moral obligation of the government to ensure timely payment of pensions, despite the fiscal challenges faced by the administration.

The disbursement will benefit 733 retirees, including 391 from 2018 and 342 from 2019, covering both teaching and non-teaching staff across secondary schools in the state. Peter Akingbad, the Permanent Secretary of the Ondo State Pension Transition Department, noted that this development is a major step towards clearing the backlog of gratuities.

The Governor's commitment to improving the welfare of senior citizens was reaffirmed by representatives from the Nigeria Union Pension State.
