Aiyedatiwa Critiques Court Ruling on 2028 Election Bid

Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has publicly criticized a Federal High Court ruling that restrains him from seeking another term in the upcoming 2028 governorship election. Speaking during a television program, Aiyedatiwa described the court's decision as premature and a distraction from his governance.

He emphasized the importance of focusing on delivering the mandate given to him until the next election scheduled for November 16, 2024. The ruling, delivered by Justice Toyin Adegok, declared Aiyedatiwa ineligible to contest in 2028, citing constitutional provisions that limit governors to eight years in office.

Aiyedatiwa, who recently won the governorship election on November 16, 2024, argued that he has not yet completed his tenure and dismissed claims of political witch hunts surrounding the lawsuit filed by Akin Egbuwalo, a chieftain of the Progressive Congress. He reiterated his commitment to governance and the democratic process despite the legal challenges he faces.
