Ibeno Council Demands Transparency in PIA Implementation

On September 12, the Ibeno Local Government Council in Akwa Ibom State, led by Executive Chairman Deaconess Glory Ekah Effiong, demanded greater transparency and inclusiveness in the implementation of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA). This call was made during a meeting with the Energy and Maritime Reporters of Nigeria (EMR) as part of their Core Oil Communities Tour of Ibeno.

Effiong highlighted the need for increased government and industry focus on youth empowerment, local content participation, environmental protection, and community development. The discussions addressed various challenges faced by the oil-producing and coastal community, including oil spills and host community relations.

Effiong commended the EMR for their initiative, which aims to foster cooperation among government, communities, and industry stakeholders. She urged for enhanced attention to Ibeno’s developmental needs, emphasizing that the community's contributions to the oil economy should lead to improved living conditions and economic opportunities for its residents.
