Alak Calls for Regional Hubs to Boost Africa's Mining Sector

During the Power Africa Summit in Washington D.C., Dele Alak, the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, advocated for the establishment of regional hubs to boost Africa's mining sector. He highlighted the importance of creating industrial corridors, such as the Lobito Corridor and the Lagos-Abidjan Corridor, to enhance cross-border mining industrialization.

Alak emphasized the need for sustainable partnerships to meet the rising global demand for critical minerals. He noted significant progress in the sector, including the arrest of 350 suspected illegal miners and the ongoing prosecution of 150 individuals.

Alak also discussed the government's reforms under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which aim to improve regulatory frameworks and enhance the ease of doing business. He stated that these reforms have attracted $2.6 billion in foreign direct investment over the past two and a half years.

The panel included notable figures such as Sarah Whitten from the U.S. Export-Import Bank and Guinean Minister of Energy Sekou Camara.
