Alak Advocates Regional Hubs for Africa's Mining Growth

Dele Alak, Nigeria's Minister of Solid Minerals Development, spoke at the Power Africa Summit in Washington D.C., advocating for the establishment of regional energy hubs to bolster Africa's mining industry. He highlighted the importance of creating industrial corridors, such as the Lobito Corridor and the Lagos-Abidjan Corridor, to enhance cross-border mining operations and strengthen supply chains.

Alak emphasized that these corridors would serve as economic catalysts, driving infrastructure development and energy access while promoting regional integration. He noted the need for reforms in Nigeria's mining sector under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration, which include improving regulatory frameworks and digitizing the licensing process to facilitate business operations.

Alak also mentioned the government's efforts to secure geological data to support investment decisions and acknowledged the challenges within the sector, including the arrest of 350 suspected illegal miners, with 150 currently undergoing prosecution, signaling a commitment to improving the business environment in Nigeria's mining sector.
