Education Minister Alausa Defends King’s College Concession

Dr. Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, addressed the deteriorating conditions at King’s College, Lagos, and other Federal Unity Colleges, describing them as unfit for training future leaders. During a meeting with The Sun Publishing Limited's Managing Director, Onuoha Ukeh, Alausa recounted a visit to King’s College where he observed filthy hostels, unusable bathrooms, and prolonged power outages.

He stated that urgent intervention was necessary to halt the decline. The Federal Government's decision to concession King’s College to the King’s College Old Boys’ Association (KCOBA) under a Public-Private Partnership has sparked protests among workers and parents.

Alausa clarified that the school has not been sold or privatized, and the government retains ownership and regulatory oversight. The KCOBA has committed to managing and investing in the school's restoration without increasing fees, ensuring continued admission of pupils from all regions of Nigeria.

Alausa assured that the interests of workers would be protected in this arrangement.
