Education Minister Alausa Ensures No Fee Hikes at King’s College

Dr. Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, addressed concerns regarding the proposed management arrangement for King’s College, Lagos, stating it will not lead to increased school fees or job losses for teachers. He clarified that the arrangement is specific to King’s College and will not extend to other Federal Government Colleges (Unity Schools).

Alausa firmly stated that the Federal Government has no intention of selling any Unity College. The partnership with the King’s College Old Boys Association (KCOBA) aims to attract resources for the rehabilitation and modernization of the college, which has faced infrastructure deterioration.

During a visit, Alausa noted poor conditions in hostels and classrooms and ordered the cancellation of a commercial car park arrangement on school premises due to security concerns. KCOBA has pledged substantial resources through a non-profit foundation and has previously invested over N2 billion in the college's infrastructure.

The initiative seeks to maintain merit-based admissions and ensure access for students nationwide.
