Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji: A Titan of Nigerian Public Service

Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji (1937-2026), a prominent figure in Nigeria's public service, passed away after battling illness for several weeks. He was first admitted to Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital in Sokoto and later transferred to Alliance Hospital in Abuja, where he died.

Alhaji served as Minister of Finance, Minister of State for Budget and Planning, and Nigeria's High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, demonstrating exceptional competence in managing the nation's finances and external debt. Born into the Sokoto royal family, he held the title of Sardaunan Sokoto, reflecting his esteemed background.

His public service career began in 1964, and he continued to contribute as a Special Adviser on Economic Affairs to Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara States after retirement.
