Northern Governors Mourn Ex-Minister Abubakar Alhaji

The Northern Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NNGF) expressed profound sorrow over the death of former Minister of Finance and Sardaunan Sokoto, Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji, who died on Thursday in Abuja. A condolence message from Ismaila Uba Misilli, the Director-General of Press Affairs at the Government House Gombe, quoted the Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya.

He described Alhaji as an outstanding public servant whose decades of service significantly impacted Nigeria’s development. Governor Yahaya noted that Alhaji dedicated his life to national service, earning respect for his integrity and leadership.

After leaving the cabinet, Alhaji served as Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom in 1992. The governor also acknowledged Alhaji’s royal heritage as a descendant of Shehu Usmanu Danfodiyo and emphasized his role as a custodian of Sokoto Caliphate traditions.

Yahaya extended condolences to Alhaji’s family, the Sultan of Sokoto, and the people of Sokoto State, praying for Allah’s forgiveness and granting him Aljannat Firdaus.
