Benue Governor Alia Backs Tinubu's 2027 Presidential Bid

Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, the Executive Governor of Benue State, declared support for the presidential ticket of Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kashim Shettima at a North-Central grassroots mobilisation rally in Lafia, Nasarawa State. This commitment is significant as it will be evaluated against his administration's governance record, service delivery, and socioeconomic development.

Benue State, known as the Food Basket of the Nation, faces challenges such as insecurity, inadequate infrastructure, and unemployment. Since taking office, Alia's administration has initiated various interventions in agriculture, education, healthcare, infrastructure, public administration, and security.

As of June 2024, he reported awarding 51 road projects, including 16 strategic roads, with a total of about 534 kilometers of roads awarded by October 2026. The administration has also focused on urban renewal, including the renovation of the State Secretariat and the State House of Assembly complex, as well as the Light Up Makurdi initiative to enhance urban safety and attractiveness.
