Alibaba Launches $1.5M Grant for African Entrepreneurs

Alibaba, via the Jack Ma Foundation, has unveiled a $1.5 million grant initiative designed to support African entrepreneurs as part of the 8th edition of Africa's Business Heroes (ABH) program. The 2026 edition's theme is "Defining Africa's Future Today," aiming to empower founders to develop innovative solutions to Africa's pressing challenges.

The program will focus on sectors such as climate, smart agriculture, digital finance, healthcare, logistics, manufacturing, and emerging technologies. Zahra Boateng, Managing Director for Africa, emphasized the critical role of African entrepreneurs in shaping the continent's future and addressing key economic and social issues.

Beyond the grant funding, the program will offer mentorship, strategic guidance, and exposure to help businesses scale sustainably and create jobs. The ABH will expand its recognition pool to include the top 100 finalists and deepen engagement across ten African markets, including Namibia, Tunisia, and Zambia.

The program is open to African citizens who have been operating a registered business for at least three years and demonstrate a commitment to positive social impact.
