All Political Parties Submit Membership Registers to INEC

On Friday, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced that all 22 political parties in Nigeria have successfully submitted their membership registers, adhering to the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026 in preparation for the 2027 general elections. The statement was issued by Mohan Haruna, the chairman of the voter education committee.

The submission process followed an extension granted to the political parties after concerns were raised regarding the original deadline. A meeting held on March 24, 2026, with stakeholders led to the adjustment of the submission deadlines to April 21, 2026, and May 10, 2026, to align with Section 77(4) of the Electoral Act 2026.

Political parties are required to submit their registers no later than 21 days before their primaries, which are scheduled to occur between April 23, 2026, and May 30, 2026. INEC emphasized its commitment to conducting free, fair, credible, and inclusive elections.
