INEC to Start Candidate Uploads for 2027 Elections June 26

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced that political parties will start uploading the names and details of their candidates for the 2027 general elections from June 26, 2023. This announcement was made by INEC Chairman Prof.

Joash Amupitan during a quarterly consultative meeting with political party leaders in Abuja. The commission has concluded the primary election phase and is transitioning to the candidate nomination stage, providing access codes to political parties for the candidate nomination portal.

Amupitan emphasized that the portal will be fully automated and will close after the stipulated deadline. Despite ongoing legal disputes regarding the commission's timeline for the elections, Amupitan assured that INEC remains committed to conducting the elections in strict compliance with the Constitution and electoral laws.

Additionally, preparations for the June 20 Ekiti State governorship election are at an advanced stage, with 1,059,360 registered voters expected to participate.
