Court Orders Accelerated Trial for Alleged Coup Suspects

A court has ordered an accelerated trial for suspects implicated in an alleged coup plot, with the trial scheduled to commence on April 29, April 30, May 4, and May 5. Justice Abdulmalik presided over the proceedings, where the Attorney General, Lateef Fagbemi SAN, indicated that the prosecution was ready to proceed, subject to the court's scheduling.

The lawyer representing the first defendant, Moham Ilayepo, informed the court that his client's bail application was ready for hearing. However, Justice Abdulmalik ruled that the trial would proceed as previously indicated, while also considering the bail requests from the lawyers representing the second, third, and sixth defendants, including Paul Erokoro.

Concerns were raised regarding the complexity of the charges and the short notice for service. Justice Abdulmalik directed all parties to agree on dates to ensure a speedy trial, leading to the adoption of the aforementioned dates for the hearings.
