SERAP Demands Probe into Alleged ₦26.9 Billion Misappropriation

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has issued a statement demanding that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu urgently direct the Attorney General and relevant anti-corruption agencies to investigate the alleged misappropriation of ₦26.9 billion from the Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF). This demand follows a report from the Auditor General of the Federation, which revealed significant financial irregularities in the USPF's operations.

SERAP's letter, dated May 9, 2026, highlights that the USPF failed to disclose a domiciliary dollar account, did not remit ₦13.8 billion, and allegedly spent ₦11.7 million on international training without proper documentation. Furthermore, the USPF awarded contracts worth ₦2.8 billion without approval and made payments for services not rendered.

SERAP warns that failure to act within seven days will leave them no choice but to pursue legal action. The organization emphasizes the importance of transparency and accountability in managing public funds.
