SERAP Urges Tinubu to Investigate N26.9bn Fund Mismanagement

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to initiate an urgent investigation into the alleged diversion of N26.9 billion from the Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF). In a statement, SERAP urged Tinubu to direct the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, and USPF Secretary, Yomi Arowosafe, to clarify the whereabouts of the missing funds.

SERAP has also requested that the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, and anti-corruption agencies investigate the allegations, asserting that anyone found responsible should face prosecution. The letter, dated May 9, 2026, cites a report from the Auditor General published on September 9, 2025, which highlights financial irregularities, including unaccounted expenditures and improper contract awards.

SERAP emphasizes that the failure to investigate and recover these funds deprives Nigerians of essential services and exacerbates inequities in telecommunications access, particularly in rural areas.
