Ex-Director Admits Signing Statement in N109bn Fraud Case

On Tuesday, Haruna Alabi, the former Director of Legal Services at the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, testified in a trial concerning an alleged N109.5 billion fraud. He admitted to signing a statement made by the former Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Ahm Idri, as a witness on May 17, 2022.

This testimony occurred during a trial within a trial at the Abuja High Court, where the prosecution, led by Oluwalek Atolagb, sought to tender Idri's statement made on November 23, 2022. The defense, represented by Chris Uch, objected to this on the grounds of deception and inducement.

Alabi identified his signature on Idri's statement when shown as an exhibit. He explained that he visited Idri at the EFCC headquarters on the same date to express empathy.

The trial is set to continue on June 24, with the defense seeking to produce additional witnesses as directed by Justice Halilu Yusuf.
