INEC's ICT Director Addresses Alleged Partisan Tweet

Lawrence Bayod, the ICT Director of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), addressed allegations regarding a partisan tweet purportedly aimed at discrediting INEC Chairman Joash Amupitan. During an interview on Channel Television, Bayod asserted that the tweet was a clear case of digital impersonation and was intended to undermine the credibility of INEC.

The tweet allegedly expressed support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the 2023 general elections, which led to calls for Amupitan's resignation from opposition parties. However, forensic reports indicated that the tweet was fabricated, with evidence showing that the account linked to Amupitan was created on April 10, 2026, and the alleged tweet was made in 2023.

Bayod emphasized the need for thorough investigation by the NCCC and mentioned that any digital impersonation should be reported to authorities to prevent public misinformation.
