INEC Disowns Partisan Post Linked to Prof. Amupitan

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially disowned a partisan social media post that was falsely attributed to Prof. Joash Amupitan, a senior official within the commission. INEC's statement, signed by Chief Press Secretary Adedayo Oketola, categorically denied any association between Amupitan and the post, describing it as a malicious attempt to smear the commission's reputation during a critical period of electoral reform.

The commission emphasized that Amupitan does not manage any personal social media accounts and has never engaged in partisan commentary or aligned with political activities in either his private or public roles. INEC also highlighted the existence of fraudulent accounts impersonating its chairman, warning the public about ongoing cybercriminal activities aimed at exploiting the commission's reputation.

The commission is collaborating with relevant security agencies to track down those responsible for this identity theft and misinformation, asserting that necessary measures will be taken to hold fraudsters accountable under the law.
