Court Denies Bail to Suspect in Abuja School Attack Plot

On September 18, 2023, the Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Joyc Abdulmalik, denied bail to John Jude Agbo, who was arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) for allegedly plotting multiple attacks on schools in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The prosecution presented four witnesses and closed its case against Agbo, who faces charges related to terrorism and cybercrime.

During the proceedings, the judge noted that there was no evidence to suggest that Agbo would not jump bail if released. The DSS had previously informed the court that Agbo collaborated with others, and audio-visual records of his interview were tendered as evidence.

Following the prosecution's formal closure of its case, the judge adjourned the matter until September 24, 2023, for Agbo to open his defense.
