Xabi Alonso Set to Become Chelsea's New Manager

Xabi Alonso is reportedly set to be appointed as Chelsea's new manager, just four months after being dismissed from Real Madrid. Various media outlets indicate that an agreement in principle has been reached between the Spaniard and the Premier League club.

Alonso is expected to take over before Chelsea's match against Tottenham on Tuesday. Chelsea has not yet named a permanent successor to Liam Rosenior, who lost his job last month.

The club is currently sitting ninth in the Premier League table and is unlikely to qualify for European football next season, with only two matches remaining in the campaign. Alonso previously led Bayer Leverkusen to their first Bundesliga title during an unbeaten campaign in the 2023-24 season.

His tenure at Real Madrid was brief, lasting just seven months after replacing Alvaro Arbeloa. Alonso will become the fifth permanent manager for Chelsea since the club was bought by BlueCo in 2022.
