OPEC+ Increases Oil Production Quotas Amid Tensions

On Sunday, OPEC+ announced an increase in oil production quotas by 188,000 barrels per day, responding to pressures from the Strait of Hormuz bottlenecks and the recent withdrawal of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from the group. This decision comes as the cartel aims to demonstrate its continued control over the global oil market despite significant disruptions caused by ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.

The total production quota for June is now set against a backdrop of a shortfall of approximately 9 million barrels per day, primarily due to war-related disruptions. Analysts, including Jorg Leon from Rystad Energy, noted that the UAE's exit signals tensions within the oil market, while Priya Walia highlighted that the real impact on physical supply remains limited due to constraints in the Strait of Hormuz.

The increase in quotas follows a similar rise announced in March and April, where OPEC had previously adjusted production levels in response to market conditions.
