AMLSN Urges Government to Accelerate Healthcare Reforms

The 19th Annual Public Health Lecture and National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN) concluded in Enugu with a strong appeal to the Federal Government to hasten critical healthcare policy reforms. In a communique issued on Saturday, AMLSN National President, Dr.

Casmir Ifeanyi, emphasized that delays in implementing key decisions are undermining healthcare governance, workforce development, and service delivery nationwide. The association urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to prioritize reforms in medical laboratory practice, including the reconstitution of regulatory boards and the approval of new professional programs.

They also called for the assent to the bill establishing the Federal University of Medical Laboratory Science and Technology in Jos, which they believe would enhance education and healthcare development. Additionally, AMLSN commended the appointment of Dr.

Donald Ibeh Ofili as the Registrar and CEO of the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria, while expressing concern over the delay in reconstituting the Governing Board of MLSCN, which has weakened oversight and delayed critical decisions.
