Amnesty International Condemns Wike's Violent Remarks

Amnesty International criticized Nyesom Wike, the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, for allegedly making a reckless and violent remark against a journalist during a live television interview. The human rights organization expressed its concerns on its official social media account, stating that Wike's comments could encourage attacks on journalists and pose a serious risk to media practitioners and press freedom in Nigeria.

Amnesty International described Wike's language as reckless and warned that such statements from senior government officials normalize violence against journalists, jeopardizing their safety while performing their duties. The organization emphasized that Wike's comments violated Nigeria's broadcast regulations and called on the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission to enforce standards.
