Amokachi and Ikpeba Push for Private Clubs in Nigerian League

During the NNL Super Four tournament draw ceremony held at the Marriott Hotel in Ikeja, former Nigerian football legends Daniel Amokachi and Victor Nosa Ikpeba called for more privately owned clubs in the Nigerian league to enhance the growth of domestic football. Amokachi, whose team, Ranchers Bees, returned to the Nigerian top-flight league after nearly 18 years, highlighted the need for football to be treated as a business.

He acknowledged the challenges faced in promoting teams to the NPFL, particularly for Ranchers Bees in the 2025/2026 NNL season. Ikpeba emphasized the significance of the NNL in nurturing talent for the Super Eagles.

Bukola Olopade, the Director General of the National Sports Commission, praised the NNL board, led by Georg Aluo, for organizing a world-class event. The NNL Super Four is scheduled to take place from May 4 to May 8, 2026, at Remo Star Stadium, with four newly promoted NPFL sides competing for a 10 million prize title.
