Gani Adams Critiques Amotekun's Politicization and Insecurity

Gani Adams, the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, expressed concerns regarding the politicization of the Amotekun security outfit and the escalating insecurity in Nigeria, which he described as turning into a business venture. In an interview with Vanguard, he urged the federal government to approve the establishment of state police, arguing that the current centralized police structure fails to address the growing security threats across the country.

Adams highlighted that insecurity has worsened and that government efforts alone cannot tackle the challenges. He emphasized the need for collaboration among stakeholders, including state and local governments, to effectively reduce insecurity.

Adams also criticized the recruitment process of Amotekun, noting it has become highly politicized. He raised alarms over the killing of seven traditional rulers in the South West region and the spread of insecurity in major cities, including Ibadan and Lagos.

He reiterated the urgency of establishing state police to strengthen community-based intelligence and address Nigeria's growing insecurity.
