Anambra Police Rescue Nine from Flood, Search for Missing Child

A flood incident occurred on the Nibo–Isiagu Road in the Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State, resulting in one schoolchild being reported missing. The incident took place in the early hours of September 22, 2026, during heavy rainfall.

The Anambra State Police Command, led by spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga, reported that nine individuals, including seven schoolchildren and two adults, were rescued by the command’s Safe School Operatives in collaboration with local community members. The operatives mobilized quickly after receiving information about the flood, successfully bringing the nine victims to safety.

However, one child remains unaccounted for, prompting the police to initiate sustained search and rescue operations in the area, which will continue until the missing child is found. The police are working closely with community members and other relevant stakeholders in this effort.
