Anambra State Government Questions Peter Obi's 2027 Bid

The Anambra State Government has renewed its challenge to former Governor Peter Obi regarding his eligibility for the 2027 presidential race, accusing him of failing to fulfill commitments related to workers' salaries and the state's debt profile. This challenge was prompted by a document released by the government, which claims that salary arrears existed during Obi's tenure as governor.

The government referenced two specific commitments made by Obi: that he would withdraw from the presidential race if it was proven he left Anambra in debt, and that he would resign if workers were not paid on time. The government alleges that Obi broke both promises, stating he left office in 2014 with increased salary arrears.

To substantiate its claims, the government published a letter dated April 25, 2006, signed by Chuks Iloegbunam, Obi's Chief of Staff, which appealed for the payment of outstanding salaries owed to workers of the Anambra State Water Corporation. The letter highlighted the corporation's monthly wage bill of approximately N15 million and the last payment made to workers in February.
