Anambra State Intensifies Flood Control Efforts

The Anambra State Government is intensifying its efforts to address recurring flooding and erosion challenges affecting communities across the state. During a joint inspection of flood and erosion-prone areas in Ogidi and Onitsha, officials including Mr.

Okei Ezeobi, who oversees physical planning, and Mr. Chijiok Ojukwu, in charge of environmental matters, assessed the damage caused by flooding.

They identified illegal developments, such as structures obstructing drainage channels, as major contributors to these environmental issues. Mr.

Ezeobi reaffirmed the government's commitment to providing lasting solutions to flooding challenges, with the second phase of the Ogidi flood control project ready for implementation. Mr.

Aguiyi highlighted that human activities, including illegal construction and improper waste disposal, exacerbate environmental degradation. The government is urging residents to support initiatives aimed at protecting drainage infrastructure and restoring critical drainage networks to mitigate flooding and erosion.
