Anambra Seals 200 Shops for Sit-at-Home Violations

On Monday, Anambra State officials sealed 200 shops in Bridg Head Market, Onitsha, due to violations of a state government sit-at-home directive. The enforcement action was led by Emeka Orji, the chairman of Onitsha South Local Government Area, and Paul Onuachalla, the council's secretary.

The local government monitored compliance across six markets and found that traders had locked their shops despite government orders to resume normal business activities. Orji described the traders' actions as unfortunate and counterproductive, especially at a time when the state government is working to revive economic activities.

The sealed shops will remain closed until the following Monday, with potential indefinite closure for non-compliance. Onuachalla stated that the traders' actions constitute serious offenses, including economic sabotage, and emphasized that the council would not treat the matter lightly.

He warned that the government would enforce the law strictly to protect public interest and prevent unlawful activities.
