Anambra Seals Shops in Onitsha for Non-Compliance

The Anambra state government has sealed several shops in Onitsha markets as a consequence of traders failing to comply with the Monday sit-at-home directive. Governor Evarist Uba conducted a monitoring tour to assess compliance and observed significant commercial activity in Obosi Market, which he described as a welcome departure from the prolonged weekly shutdown affecting the state's economic activities.

Uba commended traders who adhered to the directive and warned that shops remaining sealed for non-compliance would face a two-week deterrent. Chike Onunkwo, chairman of the Obosi market traders' association, and Jude Nwankwo, president of the Intern Build Materi Market Ogidi, praised the government's improved security measures and urged traders to support efforts to stabilize and rebuild the state's economy.

The monitoring team included Ben Chiobi, the special adviser on security, and Christian Aburim, the press secretary to the governor, who visited major markets in Onitsha and Nnewi to assess compliance with the state government's directives.
