AnambraDecides: BVAS Glitches Cause Voting Delays in Onitsha During Elections

During the AnambraDecides election, BVAS glitches in Onitsha, Anambra State, led to significant delays in voting as voters waited for hours due to malfunctioning voter accreditation systems. Despite assurances of readiness, technical failures with the BVAS system caused frustration among voters, with some threatening to leave if the process did not begin promptly.

The glitches mirrored issues seen in the 2023 general elections, raising concerns among civil society observers. However, voting started smoothly in other local government areas like Aguata, Awka South, Orumba North, and Nnewi North.

INEC technicians worked to resolve the BVAS issues to ensure the voting process continued.
