Anglican Bishop Calls for Action Against Bad Governance

Most Rev Joseph Akinfenwa, the retired Bishop of Ibadan Diocese, addressed the four newly consecrated bishops of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, during the 15th General Synod held at Our Saviour’s Anglican Church in Ikenne Remo, Ogun State. He urged them to uphold the dignity of the episcopate and embody the gospel in their lives.

Akinfenwa expressed concern over the severe hunger, insecurity, and hardships affecting Nigeria, stating that church leaders must not hesitate to speak truth to power and hold the nation's leaders accountable. He remarked that the current state of the nation should have improved if leaders were attentive to media reports.

He emphasized the importance of prayer, active citizenship, and the church's prophetic role in advocating for good governance. The newly consecrated bishops include Ven Godwin Terso Yakela (Bishop of Makurdi Diocese), Ven Kingsley Ogbonda (Bishop of Uyo), Ven Julius Oyediran (Bishop of Ekiti-Oke Diocese), and Ven Oluyemi Fatusi (Bishop of Awori Diocese).
