The accident occurred while Joshua was visiting family during Christmas.

Following the incident, Joshua was hospitalized but later discharged, experiencing an emotional and physical toll that has reshaped his immediate plans. Promoter Eddie Hearn confirmed that Joshua will not participate in a fight originally scheduled for March, which was highly anticipated as a clash against Tyson Fury.

Joshua's last fight was in November, where he stopped Jake Paul in the sixth round in Miami. Meanwhile, Tyson Fury announced his retirement starting in 2025, preparing for a bout against Arslanbek Makhmudov at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on April 11, acknowledging that Joshua's tragedy influenced his decision to return.
