Rivers Police Dismiss Officers Over Anthony Obodo Killing

The Rivers State Police Command dismissed three officers—ASP Fabian Kpeanabari, Corporal Alfred Louis, and Police Constable Michael Ejokwu—over the killing of University of Port Harcourt graduate Anthony A. Obodo during a patrol operation on August 27, 2026.

The incident occurred when a patrol team attempted to stop a tinted Lexus vehicle, which sped away, leading to a chase. Corporal Louis allegedly fired at the vehicle, injuring Obodo, who later died at Palmer’s Hospital.

The police commissioner, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, confirmed that the officers were subjected to orderly-room proceedings and would face criminal charges. Inspector Solomon Nwrogu, who allegedly fled the scene, has been declared a deserter, and efforts are ongoing to locate him.

Adepoju assured the public of accountability and professionalism within the police force and expressed condolences to Obodo's family.
