Akume Leads Federal Delegation to Console Yari in Zamfara

On September 18, 2026, Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, led a Federal Government delegation to Talata Mafara, Zamfara State, to express condolences to Senator Abdulaziz Abubakar Yari, the Director General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, following the death of his maternal aunt, Hajiya Rukiya Jibril. Hajiya Jibril was the immediate younger sister of Yari’s mother.

The condolence visit included notable figures from opposition parties, such as former Sokoto State Governor Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal and Senator Abdul Ningi from the African Democratic Congress, as well as Senator Tony Nwoye from the Nigeria Democratic Congress. Akume conveyed a message from President Bola Tinubu, assuring Yari and his family of their support during this time of grief.

Yari expressed gratitude for the visit, which he found comforting, and requested prayers for his late aunt. Other members of the delegation included Niger State Governor Umar Bago and former governors Rochas Okorocha and Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
