APC Explains Delay in Welcoming Rivers Governor Amid Political Crisis

The APC has clarified the delay in officially welcoming Rivers Governor Siminalayi Fubara after he defected from the PDP in December 2025. APC's National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, attributed the delay to a wider strategic approach to managing the region, particularly the sensitivities in the northern states.

Fubara's defection is seen as part of his bid for a second term in 2027, amidst a power struggle with influential figure Nyesom Wike. The political crisis in Rivers State has led to impeachment moves and negotiation efforts to stabilize the situation ahead of the 2027 elections.

The PDP has faced internal challenges, with a faction rejecting a caretaker committee backed by Nyesom Wike, citing constitutional issues.
