APC Leaders Weigh Alternatives Amid Wike's Attacks on Tinubu

Senior figures within the All Progressives Congress (APC), including several governors, are exploring alternative options for the 2027 presidential election amid ongoing tensions caused by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike's repeated attacks on APC governors. These attacks have led to significant frustration among party leaders, with some viewing Wike's conduct as a direct threat to President Bola Tinubu's re-election prospects.

Governors from Ogun, Kwara, and Imo states are particularly displeased, and concerns are growing that Wike's political adversaries may shift their focus to the President. The APC National Working Committee has refrained from taking action, with a senior source indicating that any intervention would require President Tinubu's backing to avoid potential backlash.

Former APC Organising Secretary Eze Duru and former Nigerian Political Science Association President Prof. Hassan Saliu both emphasized the necessity of maintaining Wike's support to ensure a broad coalition for the upcoming election, noting that Tinubu's administration has included figures from various parties.
