Rivers APC Stays with Wike's Coalition Amid Opposition

The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has publicly rejected calls to distance itself from the Rainbow Coalition associated with former Rivers State governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. This decision comes despite the APC Governors’ Forum, chaired by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, opposing political alliances that could weaken the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Rivers APC, led by Chairman Chief Tony Okocha and Publicity Secretary Hon. Chibike Ikenga, stated that the political landscape in Rivers State is unique and requires different strategies. They urged APC governors to focus on strengthening their political structures and mobilizing support for President Bola Tinubu.

Wike has described the Rainbow Coalition as a platform to support Tinubu’s re-election, asserting that it does not require participating parties to abandon their candidates in other elections. This stance has led to disagreements with some APC governors regarding the coalition's implications for the party.
