Wike Challenges APC Governors Over Coalition Plans

Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory Minister, on Monday, dismissed concerns raised by All Progressives Congress (APC) governors about his proposed Rainbow Coalition potentially undermining the ruling party ahead of the 2027 elections. In an appearance on TVC’s Journalists’ Hangout, Wike stated that the coalition is designed to mobilize support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election while permitting politicians to run for governorship and legislative seats on their respective party platforms.

He accused APC governors of opposing the coalition to safeguard their political interests, particularly regarding the leadership of the next National Assembly, specifically targeting Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma’s ambition to become Senate President. Wike argued that supporting Tinubu does not necessitate abandoning candidates from other parties in sub-national contests, referencing the 2023 G5 experience.

He firmly stated he would never support Uzodimma for Senate President and denied rumors of any agreement between Tinubu and the PDP regarding state concessions.
