APC and NNPP Reject US Proposal for Visa Ban on Nigerian Politician Kwankwaso

The All Progressives Congress (APC) and the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP) responded to a US proposal recommending visa bans and asset freezes on Nigerian politician Rabiu Kwankwaso and others for alleged religious freedom violations. The APC's Director of Publicity, Bala Ibrahim, criticized the move, emphasizing the need for fair hearings and due process.

The NNPP's Public Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, expressed shock at Kwankwaso's inclusion on the sanctions list. The proposal is based on the Global Magnitsky Human Rights Accountability Act and accuses individuals and entities of religious freedom abuses.

Kwankwaso was defended by Bashir Ahmad against the accusations, citing his anti-terror stance. This development follows previous concerns raised by US lawmakers about religious persecution in Nigeria.

The Nigerian Senate has called for unity in diplomatic engagement to address challenges like blasphemy laws in the country.
