Hilliard Eta Calls for APC Reforms Amid Primaries Concerns

Hilliard Eta, the former acting chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), expressed concerns regarding the lack of confidence in the party's primaries for the upcoming general elections. He noted that many aspirants feel they were short-changed in the candidate selection process.

Eta emphasized that the APC was founded in 2013 to address the failures of internal democracy seen in the then-ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP). He stated that the party has not achieved its goals in this regard and has been emulating the PDP's practices since the 2015 elections.

He called for necessary reforms to ensure a fair internal democratic process, acknowledging the validity of complaints from party members. Eta also mentioned that the recent amendment to the Electoral Act, which removed indirect primaries, was expected to reduce governors' control over party structures, but he questioned whether this influence has indeed diminished.
