Nigerian Appeal Court Upholds Death Sentence of Hanifa's Killer Tanko

The Nigerian Appeal Court has upheld the death sentence of Tanko, the killer of Hanifa Abubakar, a five-year-old girl who was poisoned after being abducted in December 2021. Tanko, the proprietor of Noble Kid Academy in Kano State, had demanded a ransom of 6 million naira from the girl's family.

The court found Tanko guilty of culpable homicide and dismissed his appeal, stating that the lower court's decision was proper and based on compelling evidence. Tanko, along with Isyaku Hashim and Fatima Jibril, was sentenced for their roles in the crime.

Tanko received a death sentence, while Fatima Jibril was sentenced to two years in prison.
