Archbishop Kaigama Advocates Peace and Forgiveness in Nigeria

During the 2026 National Feast Celebration of the Pious Union of Saint Rita of Cascia in Abuja, Most Reverend Dr. Ignatius Ayau Kaigama called on Nigerians to reject vengeance and embrace peace, forgiveness, and reconciliation as vital for national development.

Represented by Rev. Fr.

Richard Igyor, the Archbishop highlighted the theme “Cultivating Peace, Faith and Hope: Emulating Saint Rita’s Virtues,” which gathered over 1,000 devotees. Fr.

Igyor emphasized that the virtues of Saint Rita, including forgiveness and commitment to peace, are crucial for Nigeria, especially amid insecurity and political tensions. He encouraged Nigerians to foster genuine relationships with God and reflect these values in their interactions.

Mrs. Cecilia Oyakhire, the Prior General of the Pious Union, stressed the role of women as nation builders, advocating for the promotion of peace and moral values in families.

Dr. Ukura Samuel urged leaders to embody Saint Rita’s spirit of forgiveness to reduce political hostility as Nigeria approaches elections.

Bro. Celestine Makwe also called for collective efforts towards peaceful coexistence.
