Adelabu Resigns to Pursue Oyo Governorship Ambition

Adebayo Adelabu, a minister, has officially resigned from his position against the wishes of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to focus on his ambition to become the governor of Oyo State. His resignation letter, dated April 22, 2026, was transmitted to the President's office.

Sources indicate that President Tinubu had intended to promote Adelabu to the Ministry of Finance, but Adelabu remained resolute in his decision to resign. During discussions at the Presidential Villa, Tinubu questioned the feasibility of Adelabu's political move and asked if he was confident in winning the party ticket.

Adelabu expressed absolute confidence in his ability to secure the ticket and win the general election. The resignation is set to take effect on April 30, 2026, which aligns with the legal timeframe stipulated by the Electoral Act 2026, requiring aspirants to resign at least 30 days before the party primaries.
